The "real" story behind the legendary law man.  Bass Reeves was born a slave and died a hero - having made over 3,000 arrests during his time as a Deputy US Marshal for the US Western District Court known as "Hell on the Border."

This unique perspective catches Bass at the end of his career as a lawman, serving as an officer in the Muskogee, OK police department.  An eclectic crowd shelters from a fierce thunderstorm in a hotel bar where a chance encounter with a young "Buster Williams" gives Bass the chance to recount his life.  Only in his personal reflection can we see beyond the accolades to who Bass truly was, and why.
